Once I can feel my fingers out in the garage - still about 30 today - I'm going to tackle the gas tank (junk/rust peel on the bottom).
I checked with a local shop to Re-Nu (sp?) the tank. Guy with three teeth and smoking a cigarette around gas tanks told me "200-250". I thanked him and got the hell out before the place blew up. I thought that he seemed high (and I don't mean the gas fumes)

I'm going the lazy/credit card route instead of the meth lab/garage chemical DIY way with a new tank from Wolfsburg West.

It's $129 plus $30 to ship - new tank for cheaper than three-tooth man's quote. I've been impressed with WW's products.

Other spring project is to step up to a Pertronix electronic ignition. Anyone bought parts from Aircooled.Net? They sell a kit for the 010 dizzy. It runs $119.95.

I still question the Bosch coil on the Bug, although the spark test/ohm meter checked out. I'm wondering about a Flame Thrower coil (with 3.0 ohm resistance so it doesn't burn up the electronic ignition). Any thoughts/ comments on this unit?

Hey I represent that remark :redguy:

AC.net is very legit. I just helped chuck dial in his ignition setup (glen rebuilt his 010 and installed a petronix and he has the flame thrower). The car still isn't 100% road worthy but it seems like a winning combo. I have always had great success with compufire and a blue coil, but dizzy's are a thing of the past for me now :geek:

Thanks for the  on AC.net. I didn't find other kits out there for the 010, thus my reason for going with Pertronix setup. I think my end-of-summer spitter/sput issues might be traced back to an ignition/spark delivery issue.

ya definitely sounds like an ignition related problem. Running electronic ign is like always having new point, one of my favorite upgrades.

Cool. I'll send up a :help: flare/post if I can't figure out the Pertronix dial-in instructions. Might be a few weeks since I don't have heat in the garage :(

There's not much to installing an electronic ignition unit. I've run Bosch blue coil with a Compufire for a few years now.

I ordered a WW gas tank for Eliot's DC. It was very well packaged and the powdercoating looked pretty good!

Cool. Thanks for the tip. The WW gas tank will be an early birthday present to myself. I'll check a bit more on Compufire. I'm not sure if they sell a unit for the 010.

It's been five months since I drove the Bug, so I'm itching to get back out on the road.

does a 010 use the same type of points as a 050 or a 009?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't.
