Well After my buddies Project was put on hold because of a loose fitting pump – based on the opening in
The case because I tried and measured 5 pumps and they were all close to each but not close to the case.
So I posted up on Samba for some assistance..
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewto ... t=oil+pumpAnd finally got an answer to my question that helped be get the right product.
So I was able to finish assembly on his 1915 –This is a motor the sheared the am gear off and has tons of metal in the case.
After a good cleaning etc.etc. the long block was assembled and went to put the rockers on and found them really choppy
And rough on their swivel action so I hadn’t made it to cleaning these yet and once they were apart found the loose metal bit
Reeked havoc on the shaft – I only assume since they were NEW VW parts that the shafts are just not hardened like they
Should be .. so I but on new solid shafts and swivel head adjusters –as I found the same crap with the stock adjusters and the tips
Were smeared from only a few thousand miles of service…..
In the mean time that motor stayed on the stand while Dan and I got his new 2007cc motor for his bus up on the run stand ..since he
Has a bergman shroud and may need a little loving to fit just right and it needs paint we just used all spare tins and what nots for a top end build
At my house so we can break it in.. electric pump gets fuel there fast so eyeballed the timing a tappy tap of the throttle on his 44’s and
Off to 2k or so for 15ish minutes.. his motor broke in a ready to go ..
I decided to test the 40 IDFs I picked up in Fburg that were told to be unusable after a little ultrasonic time and some TLC they looked brand new
And ready for a test..
Put them on Dans motor and it fired right up.. held idle smooth… revved through the RPM range and held at all throttle positions.. READY TO GO –unusable IDF’s
So we stripped DAN’s and put Eric’s motor up on the run stand.. moved all the TOP end stuff to his motor .. and the freshened 40’s –a hair tap of the starter and the motor
Fired up.. and on to the break in..
Now two motors are broke in a ready to go..
Was a fun weekend..
