it's an absolutely a true statement.

Based off what you've read on the internet, or your own experience? How may different engine combos have you run 009's on that you had such terrible expeience with?

Personally, I've had good luck with them on big motors that make a lot of power and small motors that didn't make much. There are better distributors out there for sure for certain applications, but blanket statements like yours are misleading and useless.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming :)

I'm sticking behind my words, and I have used them from sissy stock 1500sp's, sissy 1600dp's, to a couple of nasty 1641's that i built, plus there was one on the type 3 motor that came with my notch, I did get that POS motor to run...for a few minutes. My old 914 had the stock efi and stock vac advance dizzy, mmmmm, that thing ran awesome. I have been driving VW's on the daily for most of my adult life, and i'm not talking about this flatlander crap here in texas, in the mountains of the sierra nevada's. You'll find out pretty damn quickly if your advance curve sucks while your tring to go up a hill.

Brian you inspired me to change my sig!

So you ran them on a few stock motors (a 1641 is a stock motor as far as I'm concerned, lol) and didn't have much luck? lol. It's pretty well known that they often don't work too well with stock carbs. I've run them on motors from 40 horse (with a stock carb, and in my hands it worked very well) to nearly 200 and they have worked fine. The thing is though, you have to know how to tune an engine, you can't just slap a dizzy and carb on and expect it run well. Your EFI system didn't run perfect the first time you fired it up, did it? ;)

you can call the 1641's stock, but anybody that rode in the car or heard it drive by knew better ;)

Building a motor, building a management, piecing together a ignition system and fuel injection system, then building a fuel/ign map from scratch all at once will not immediately work perfect no matter how good you are.

well... everyone really should consider that size isn't what makes the motor (of course it plays a role)

but cam-heads-carbs-iginition (along with compression-port design-port flow-oiling-exhuast-elevation-etc) is what really makes power -or lack there of...

I'd think some of those old formula vee boys can show us how to make a 1200 scream pretty darn well and I've seen first hand a 2332 with IDA's and street elminator heads dish out 118HP on a dyno.. to which I thought was rather shamefull in itself..

I was in my early 20's, they were my first motors that I built (on my kitchem counter :hillbilly: ). I wanted a rever, and boy did I get it. I am secure in my manhood and don't need the biggest anything to compensate w:pw

I learned a lot from those motors, and I'm still learning lots. I'm going to call a tuning shop tomorrow morning and try and setup a dyno day. It's always fun to see what really is being put down.
