I would not use copper for a cable to soft..

and you should run a bowden tube (a housing from the back of the pan to the meal tube that runs through the fan shroud) for the accelerator cable..

I think the trans seal might have been bad/going and when the hypoid was filled to the proper level it started to leak. I'm keeping an eye on the level. I also have a small valve cover leak that new gaskets can't seem to fix either - but that's just more character spots on the garage floor.

Hey, do you run accelerator cable conduits/tubes in your 64? I discovered that my exposed accelerator cable was cutting into the trans case - not good. I picked up a conduit for that area, but have struck out on several online sources for the conduit that runs through the fan shroud.

I have a new accelerator cable because the one in the Bug is overstretched - haven't had time to install.

I have a metal tube going through the fan shroud, and an off-the-shelf "conduit" between the pan and the metal tube. I didn't have any issues before getting the conduit, but got it just to have one less thing to worry about.

I have the bowden tube; just need to install it and the new accelerator cable. I also ordered an accelerator cable conduit that runs through the fan shroud, but SoCal Imports dropped the ball - can't get the part now.

Wolfsburg West offers this accelerator cable conduit: http://www.wolfsburgwest.com/cart/Detai ... =111129893

It says it fits all Beetles through 1965 - not sure if it's the right part.

Yep, I have the bowden tube between the pan the metal tube doing through the fan shroud; just need time to install it. I posted the Wolfsburg West conduit that I think is the missing link through the fan shroud - does that look right?

Now I don't feel so bad. Judging by your pix, I still have a good 6 years before it breaks

I took a quick peak at mine tonight. Its almost cut all the way through to the bolt. My guess is as soon as it hits that bolt, the cable is gonna shred. Gonna get that conduit soon..... The link to WW you posted looks like the one that goes through the fan shroud though.

My conduit doesn't look like the one WW sells. I got mine from Kermit but it more like Wayne said, tube with a slightly flared end.

What's in yours right now?

Yea your running dual carbs and 1835 right???

no need what so ever for the stock piece that goes through the fan shroud..

you need the basic one with flared opening..

Sometimes the flared end is not flared enough for after market shrouds too.. and thus a washer is needed to keep it from falling into the fan shroud.. I use an 8mm headstud washer -they thicker larger in diameter.

Nada. The real problem was the accelerator cable was cutting into the fan shroud.

Yep - 1835 with dual 44s. I'll fab a conduit with flared opening; buddy should have the tools. Thanks for the note on the washer.
