clutch linkage binding ... Clutch plate binding on the transmission input shaft ... or issue with the shifter itself?

I would pull the assembly back out and see if the end that goes in the hook twisted 360 degrees and is tweaked now. The clutch pedal definitely sits a little further back than the brake.

Also, attaching the throttle cable to the roller pedal, I have a small bolt with a washers and a nylon lock nut going through the round end/pedal. This way it's always "free" when pressing on the gas but won't fall off with the lock nut in place.

John suggested I check the shift linkage coupler under the backseat to see if the lock nut is loose - it is. I wonder if I found a culprit.

Tighten the square nut on the coupler and check the play in the shifter. If it still feels like crap, you might want to buy a new on and a new shift rod bushing.

Will tighten things up in the morning. I'll see how that changes the play in the shifter.

I think the clutch issue is solved: shifter linkage. I made some adjustments and it's back to normal (thanks John).

I made it to what is usually the last car show around here until spring. The Warehouse District Auto Jumble is a weird mix of cars, live rockabilly music and burlesque dancers. Oh, and that 1938 Studebaker snowplow (pictured at the college car show) won best of show.

The weather was crappy early Saturday, so the turnout was lighter than normal. The rains held off, sun came out, but it was cool (50s).

Bella picked up a sweet trophy for "Best Four Banger" (thanks John). Her competition included a 1970s Mercury Capri, an Austin Healey (sp?) Bugeye race car and a Volksrod, among others. The Volksrod did take Best Hot Rod - so it was a sweep for the VWs (all two of us).

I hope to drive Bella to work tomorrow before the sleet and snow hits northern Mich.
