Well, I have been out of it for a while. The 69 has been sitting in the garage for about a year now. I have decided to start over on it. Taking the body off, fixing all rust issues and doing a few more things to the body. The only rust I remember seeing when I first got her is some pin holes in the luggage tray and around the rear window and windshield, but I treated that when I installed new seals. The doors now have some rust coming through the paint at the bottom. It has new floor pans put in by the PO, so some cleaning up and POR15 is in store for it as well as a 4 inch narrowed beam install, replacing bushings in the rear suspension and lowering it more to match the front. Also have some patching to do of all the holes cut in it for a/c. A new wiring harness is needed as well. Finally I would like to go bigger on the engine, but that will come later. I am really excited to and have started stripping it down already. I have 1 saw horse complete and need to build 1 more to set the body on. I have never stripped a VW down this far, so any help or info is greatly appreciated!

Cool, I did it and might be able to answer some questons if I can remember ... fyi I said it before, but take pics even if you think you can remember, take them anyway... Also buy some ziplock bags different sizes. and note what it is.

Did you get your engine running right?

HAd it running with the dual kads on it, but WAy too rich. Oil was full of gas when i changed it. Ended up selling the carbs for cash for something else. just going with a 34PICT3 on the 1600 and run that while I work on a bigger engine.

Man, you could have jetted them suckas down; kads can wake up a stocker!

I know. I just have other engine plans I want to end up with and wanted to quit sinking time in that setup and focus on the other needs of the car.

Ok. Got the saw horses built. Can someone give me a check list of what needs to be unbolted or unhooked before the body can be lifted off? Any tips or tricks?

Never sseperated teh body but I think you have to remove/unbolt the steering at the beam and ground strap???

I have al wiring unhooked from engine, steering unbolted at coupler, bumpers off, fenders off. Going to take shifter off and gut the interior (seats and carpet) and going to take the doors off to shave weight. What else?
