The latest on the project. I got the wild idea to make my own wheels. Went by the salvage yard and picked up some 15X6 steel wheels off of a mid 90's car to cut up and use for the project. I am planning on cutting the center out of a smoothie tomorrow and mock it up. Here is the progress.

What I started with.

And after some grinding, and cutting, and banging, and cursing, I have this,

How are you making sure it spins true?

the outer rim is prob already true....welding in the new inner should not change it that much...the weights when its ballanced will probly correct any problems you may have.....same concept as when brian had his done just a different way of going about it...

old school race car stuff there...way to go andy...that is going to be bad ass fo sho

I agree

I disagree

if the innards are not welded in properly it will not roll correctly despite the hoop being true. ask me how I know this. When I use to ride motoX I laced up many of rims and even had to buy a special stand to make sure the center was trued to the outer rim.

I agree with both but I lean towards Ethan's thinking. If the middle is very very close to being 100% true, then wheel weights will compensate and it'll be OK. But that tolerance is very very small. If it's not done right, it will wobble like crazy.

I agree It does have to be exact all the way around but that is not that difficult. A lot of hot rodders cut wheels to get that perfect fit. If they are true they will be bad ass.

I wasnt trying to get into a debate. i was just curious as to what method he was using to true the center up. From a curious stand point. I know that their are a lot of factors. hence my original post.
