For any of ya'll here in Houston there is a Soda Blaster in Pasadena that'll blast your bug for "about" $600.00 on the outside. They also rent the blaster for $400 for a weekend.
Company is MMLJ phone is 800-216-7632 and heres their recent work

Nope the car was an original Texas owner with only one recoat so the only thing I saw was some neat assembly details from the factory I've never saw. Nice to see there's still some rock solid projects out there

 That is awesome. When I had my bug sandblasted it came back with humps and dumps all over. You would think that they would stop after the noticing they damaged the first panel. Thanks for the info.

The folks there explain blasting without issues involves cooling, lottsa cooling . In fact now the have a dustless blaster that runs recycled glass and water. I really liked the you tube on dry ice blasting

If it is sand, it will mar the metal. Soda is the way to go, it is a softer material that doesn't get hot when blasting and won't mar the metal. We used soda on my car and didn't have any issues, but soda is usually considerably more expensive. On smaller pieces that are made of aluminium we have used walnut shells, but price goes up from there.
