The day I bought him. knew a lot about bugs but not much about Ghias. Did not know all of the parts that were and the expensive parts that were broken or worn out and needed replacing. Aside from the usual peeing on the ground, oil, there was a second one, the fluid completely leaked out of the brake fluid reservoir while we negotiated. It came out the hole in the center of the pan at the rear. Thank goodness i had purchased a tow bar the previous week. Bought it from a little old hispanic woman. It was her husband's but he had a stroke and could no longer drive it. Unfortunately it was the occasional driver which he drove off curbs and bent the fender behind the front tire, drilled holes in several exterior panels and the trans case (still don't know why)

More from the first day. The engine ran good, strong and idled well firing on all cylinders. The front had been wrecked, the dash was cut and the engine area was a mud pit. Filled (no exaggeration) my shop vac with all the trash inside, especially in the trunk area.

The reason I am building a driver. I met the owner of this car the Saturday of the classic. Very nice guy and possibly the most beautiful VW i have ever seen in person. Some time later i checked the results for the classic and did not see this car as a winner and I was very disappointed. If that car did not win then something is wrong with the VW scene in Texas. At the time I did not know about DLK, DHK, Air Coolers Gang etc. Now I see that he is well known to many of you on this site and others but I still don't know why he did not at least place.

The Plan I'm no Chip Foose so be gentle. Every time I tell someone I want the top black and the bottom red, they think I mean just the roof black.

Isn't that RickR's oval, he did a HotVW shoot later that day and is a member of DLK Dallas. DHK is a upstart here in Texas, their Texas chapter has only been official for about 6 months.

That is Rick Ring's car and it is emmaculatant. Very nice car and he is part of the DLK Dallas chapter. He did a lot of work on that car himself. Sweet looking car!!!
