When I spoke with him.. he made mention that he has had that 67 for at least the last 30 years.
I bought this '67 in 1976. I sold my bought new '68 Roadrunner one day and bought the'67 the next day. The "Bird " had 70,00 miles on it at the time and the 1st. energy crisis was starting plus the Roadrunner looked kind of funny with two car seats in the back seat ( two children about two years apart ) The car was driven to work in Ennis for around 7 years,it was bone stock at the time. Started the cal-look treatment around 1984. Showed the car a lot in the following years. The single stage paint job began to get bad around 1995 so mostly quit showing the car,but still went to all the events. In 2003 I decided it was now or never on a renew. Car went to Earl Manns Bug Shop in Ardmore,Ok. for body paint only. Got the car back in Oct.2003 but did not get it back together till August of 2008. Took the car to Eureka,Springs that year and Dean Kirstin was there and so he took photos for a feature on the car. It was featured in the Jan. 2009 issue of Hot VW,s. I have a lot of memories through the years with this car and to get a feature was really special to me and my family. Last Saturday night was very special to me to win the club award. A great show put on by a bunch of great guys. Thanks DLK!!!
