the shaft that comes out of the box and the coupler bolts to it, it was crooked a couple of degree's and it was very hard to turn, aside from the usual substandard quality and materials.

What issues do these boxes have?

Some say they are junk but I have had good luck with the last two I bought. You will probably have to grind off the tabs on your beam to get proper alignment to the column. Also you will need to buy a hybrid pitman arm for it as well.

Unless chuck and myself were in red china and installed the shaft a couple few degrees off then it would be our fault. The chinese junk is ruining our hobby.

there are a lot of high quality parts coming out of China these days. Some are still below the mark, but overall the quality has improved a lot. I could argue that in some ways Chinese parts are saving our hobby, because most VW people would never pay for parts made in the USA, the prices would be at least double...
;)

Apparently the box was replaced some time in the past with a newer one so the pitman arm is good.
There is the same problems in the classic British car hobby with Chinese parts .... some are crap and others are pretty good. I looked at the threads on Samba about the TRW box and for the most part very good comments with the most adverse comments being tightness and break-in time.

The spindles are back on with new linkpins and bushings. I decided to change the linkpins when cleaning the spindles one of the bushings fell out and another was loose. Hopefullly tonight get the steering box and tie rods installed.
