It sure is wierd driving around in a bone stock car.... kinda cool, though.

Around town is no issue, but a 65mph topend isn't so much fun on I-10....... does anyone make big bore pistons and stroker cranks for 36'ers??? :P

You can punch them out to about 1600 cc's.
You should get the WW Okrasa kit for it

I have a friend that won a new 36hp performace cam at the Kelley Park show. Mr Motorhead 270duration, 328 lift, Works with single or dual carbs, and will work excellent with a judson. Also very popular with folks upgrading to the wolfsburg west Okrasa kit. Freshly ground, hardened, ready to use with any cam gear. It's for sale, she has a 1600 in her ragtop

Mr Okrasa sells his own "Mr Okrasa cranks" but really, they are 36hp cranks re-done by DPR to 69.5mm. He just charges more and they dont stamp DPR on them for him...

there are lots of things you can do on a 36'er, there is a whole section of the samba dedicated to vintage performance

Awesome car, I know my '60 vw's very well, and I think that is probably the most original I've seen. Paper tag on the fuse box is still there...unbelieveable. Nice freakin score. And it was no accident, that car was meant to be yours, glad it found you

Thanks, guys....

I was kinda kidding, but that is some good info. I'm pretty sure it's gonna stay stock for a while.

Now.... just how long a "while" is... we'll see! 8-)

I love original cars, so hopefully 'a while' is a long long time. :) they're only original once.

Build a "vintage speed" 36 horse and hold onto the OG parts, it will be way more drivable, and safer too. 8-)

A vintage speed 36-horse would be neat to build for sure. Definitely a significant "coolness" factor.

Well, I don't like trailers..... because it means my car is either broken or stolen.

The motor developed a bad rattle on the way to the Monument show.

Time for an upgrade?? ;-)

Sorry to hear Scotty! :wow: there's a guy on aircoolers selling alot of 36 horse complete engines, if yours can't be rebuilt. (if you decide to stay original)

bummer! did you pull the valve covers, maybe its just a loose rocker? other than that, probably a rod bearing.
